The Story Behind the Dish
Carrots were used to sweeten cakes and puddings in medieval Europe, when sugar was expensive. During the Second World War, the British government promoted carrot recipes because sugar was rationed.
In the 1960s and 70s American bakeries made carrot cake famous with cream cheese frosting, and it became the classic it is today, especially at Easter.
⭐ Why It's Famous
It's one of the most popular cakes in the US and UK, loved for staying moist for days.
💡 Fun Fact
In World War II, Britain used a cartoon character called 'Doctor Carrot' to encourage people to eat more carrots.
