The Story Behind the Dish
Fideo came to Mexico with the Spanish, who brought pasta from their own tradition of fideos. Mexican cooks toasted the noodles and simmered them in a caldillo de jitomate (tomato broth), creating a dish that's now in every home.
It's the first course of the classic comida corrida, the set lunch served in fondas across Mexico.
⭐ Why It's Famous
Warm, mild and comforting, it's the soup Mexican mothers make for children and anyone feeling unwell.
💡 Fun Fact
Many Mexicans eat their sopa de fideo with a squeeze of lime and a spoonful of crema, and some even add crushed tortilla chips.
