The Story Behind the Dish

📍 Peruvian Andes (Puno and Cusco)📅 Pre-Hispanic roots🥣 PE

Quinoa has been grown around Lake Titicaca for thousands of years and was a sacred crop for the Incas. In Andean homes it's eaten mostly as soup, cooked with potatoes and whatever vegetables are in season.

The United Nations declared 2013 the International Year of Quinoa, bringing the grain worldwide fame.

⭐ Why It's Famous

Nourishing, cheap and full of protein, it's the everyday soup of the high Andes.

💡 Fun Fact

Quinoa is technically a seed, related to spinach and beetroot, not a cereal.
