The Story Behind the Dish
Coconut palms line the Dominican coast, and coconut sweets are among the island's most traditional desserts. Dulce de coco is made at home and sold in markets, sometimes cooked until firm enough to cut into squares.
It's a favourite during Holy Week and at family gatherings.
⭐ Why It's Famous
Creamy, sweet and fragrant with cinnamon, it's the essence of Dominican home desserts.
💡 Fun Fact
When it's cooked longer and pressed into a tray, the same sweet can be cut into firm squares, a form often sold at roadside stalls.
