History & Culture

The Story Behind the Dish

📍 Australia, inspired by Italian pizza📅 1990s🍕 IT

Pizza scrolls became a lunchbox legend in Australian bakeries and school canteens, where they're sold by the thousands every morning. They take the flavours of Italian pizza and roll them into a soft bread spiral that travels well.

This version uses a quick two-ingredient yogurt dough, so there's no waiting for yeast: from bowl to oven in 20 minutes.

⭐ Why It's Famous

They're the most popular bakery snack in Australian school lunchboxes.

💡 Fun Fact

The yogurt dough rises thanks to the baking powder reacting with the acid in the yogurt, like a quick soda bread.
