The Story Behind the Dish
Flan came to Puerto Rico from Spain, but Puerto Ricans made it their own by adding cream cheese, which gives it a denser, richer texture, somewhere between a classic flan and a cheesecake.
Flan de queso is a fixture at birthdays, holidays and family gatherings, and every bakery on the island sells it by the slice.
⭐ Why It's Famous
Velvety, tangy and drenched in caramel, it's Puerto Rico's favourite dessert.
💡 Fun Fact
Puerto Ricans also make flan de coco, flan de calabaza (pumpkin) and flan de batata (sweet potato), but flan de queso is the most popular.
