The Story Behind the Dish

📍 England and the United States📅 18th–19th century🧀 US

Baked pasta with cheese appears in English cookbooks of the 1700s. Thomas Jefferson fell in love with macaroni in Europe and served it at the White House, and in the 1930s boxed macaroni and cheese made it a family staple in America.

Baking it in a muffin tin turns a messy bowl into neat portions with the best part, the crispy top, on every single one.

⭐ Why It's Famous

Mac and cheese is one of the most loved comfort foods for children in the English-speaking world.

💡 Fun Fact

Thomas Jefferson brought a pasta-making machine back from Italy in the 1780s.
